In order to construct an electric substation,you need to design an earthing and bonding. The responsibility of an earthing and bonding system is to provide an earthing system connection to to pass the maximum fault current. The earthing system ensures that there is no mechanical or thermal damage occurs on the equipment within the substation. Therefore it results in safety to operation and maintenance. The earthing system also guarantees bonding such that there are no danger potential gradients developed in the substation.
Three voltages have to be considered in the electric substation design namely torch, step and mesh voltage. The two methods used in terminating overhead lines at a substation are to tension at conductors to substation structures and to make tensions at ground winches. Electric substation fails more frequently during summer months than any other time of year.The National Electrical Testing Association (NETA) and IEEE both suggest annual electrical maintenance of the main system elements in all manufacturing facilities.
