Electrical substation components work in concert to perform certain functions. The electrical substation components encompass;
Lighting Arresters which protect substations from surges and they are installed on transformers, power poles, circuit breakers and towers to prevent damages which may be precipitated by electrical storms. Lightning arresters look like bushings and standoff insulators; however, they are unique in that, they possess earthing terminals under them where large ground cables are connected and runs down the structure which connects to stations ground.
Distribution Bus is a group of switches which direct power to the exterior of the substation. They are often rectangular or pyramid-shaped.
Switches are used to regulate, switch and measure electrical transmitters in the substation. They turn circuits off and on the grid.
Circuit breakers are of two types, namely live tank and dead tank. This type of circuit breaker has influence on circuit breaker accommodation.
Current transformers are accommodated in six different ways namely; installed over cables, roof or wall bushings etc.
