Substation Components

Substation components are only put into consideration to the extent they affect substation layout.

Substation components include;

Circuit breaker, open circuit breakers are of two types; dead tank which has it compartment at earth potential and live tank which has its compartment at line potential. Circuit breaker’s form influences the accommodation of circuit breaker.

Current transformers are accommodated in six ways for instance, over cables, over roof or wall bushings etc.

Isolators are offload devices; however, they can deal with small charging currents f connections and busbars. Isolator’s design is similar to design of substations. Types of isolators encompass; moving bushing types, horizontal isolation types, and vertical isolation types.

Conductor system should be economical, have amount of joints, minimum amount of supporting insulators etc. It is often made of copper or aluminum. They are of three types, tubular, flat surfaced and stranded conductors.

Insulation is also a worthwhile component of substation.
